About the event

Join us for MNJRC's first in-person Continuing the Conversation ever, being held in partnership with the Minnesota African American Heritage Museum and Gallery. This important conversation about the impact of gun violence on community is being held in the MAAHMG's current exhibit Full Circle, The Ricochet of Gun Violence, a mixed media art exhibition by the artist Nikki McComb

General admission tickets for this event are FREE with a suggested donation of $20.00 to support the work of the MNJRC and MAAHMG as you are able. CLE tickets are $60, and Continuing Education Credits for Social Workers are available for $25. If you want a CLE or Social Work CEU credit, please pay the ticket amount at registration.

About the event:

While the national violent crime rate has declined substantially over the past 30 years, shootings and homicides remain unacceptably high. Concentrations of violence persist, with gun violence taking a disproportionate toll on African American communities, contributing to trauma, economic disparities, and less cohesive neighborhoods. Far too many homicides go unsolved; further perpetuating cycles of violence and increasing the number of people carrying guns for protection.

By holding this event in the MAAHMG's exhibit Full Circle, The Ricochet of Gun Violence, the program will blend art and policy to pose solutions to the stubborn problem of gun violence. The exhibit is a mixed media art exhibition by the artist Nikki McComb that explores the impact of this gun violence from various perspectives and will open up a conversation on creating safer communities.
