About the event

Join us for another MNJRC Continuing the Conversation to discuss Twin Cities: My Life as a Black Cop and a Championship Coach with author Charles Adams interviewed by Dr. Michael Lansing. In Twin Cities, Adams navigates the space between reality and perception, between law and justice, with the insight and wisdom he has gained from his unique experience as a cop and a coach.

About Charles Adams:

Charles Adams is a product of North Minneapolis. After graduating from North High he joined the Minneapolis Police Department, overcoming racial prejudice within its ranks to become his alma mater’s resource officer and football coach. Yet when Derek Chauvin murdered George Floyd, Adams' relationship to his community forever changed. His recognition includes a state championship in 2016 and the 2020 Positive Coaching Alliance National Coach of the Year Award. He is currently director of team security for the Minnesota Twins baseball team.

About Dr. Michael Lansing:

Dr. Michael J. Lansing was born and raised in Minneapolis and is a history professor at Augsburg University. Lansing is the cofounder of “Overpoliced and Underprotected,” a public history project focused on recovering, collecting, and sharing histories of unjust policing and efforts to transform public safety in the Twin Cities. He is currently working on a book titled A Police State: Politics and Public Safety in Minneapolis, 1945-2020.

General admission tickets for this event are FREE with a suggested donation of $20.00 to support the work of the MNJRC as you are able.
